Content Description | Writes that he has been asked to give the Duke details relative to a scheme to make safe the road from Ogle to Whalton over the river Blythe; asks for the Duke's opinion on the matter; encloses a diagram.
On a separate sheet, gives details of the plan: refers to a county bridge over the river Blythe at Whalton which needs repairing, and which was viewed the previous day by Mr Aynesley; writes that to do what is necessary it was decided that cuts must be made through lands belonging to Mr Meggison and Sir William Middleton; Mr Meggison is unwilling for this to happen, so it was suggested that an exchange of five small pieces of land on the south side of the river be made for land belonging to the Duke on the north side; if this is not done the bridge could be moved, but at greater expense [Pl C 2/425/2].
Small parchment diagram of the area showing five numbered pieces of land, and the route of the road from Scotland to Newcastle [Pl C 2/425/3].
