Admin History | This is an artificial grouping of reprographic copies, which has been built up by the Library over many decades and for a variety of reasons. All items in this group have been provided as copies of originals held by private collectors. In some cases the copies were created in the context of exhibitions.
Although the earliest material in this group was acquired in the 1950s, it was not defined as a separate group until 1993, when the entire Lawrence Collection catalogue was reviewed and restructured. Until that time copies of items were interfiled with originals. The creation of a new group provided an opportunity to rationalise the holdings, including the withdrawal of copies in cases where the original documents had since been acquired by the University. The revision involved a change in reference numbers; a conversion guide is available for researchers who encounter redundant references in citations. |
Custodial History | The items in this collection do not have a single provenance but have been acquired on different occasion by donation and purchase. The material continues to expand as new items are received. |
