TitleDiaries of Edward M. Wrench, 1856-1912; with enclosures
Content DescriptionA complete series of diaries was kept by Edward M. Wrench from 1856 until his death in 1912. His diaries relate to matters of both local and national importance and to family and medical concerns. Into the diaries he inserted various letters, printed papers, photographs, ephemeral items and other documents relevant to the dates and entries, which illustrate not only the life of Edward M. Wrench, but also life in Victorian England. All the loose items have been removed from the diaries for conservation reasons. The letters have been removed and now form part of Wr C. Loose photographs were placed within the series of photographs (Wr Ph). The remaining loose printed and ephemeral items are individually listed with the diaries, numbered in the order in which they were enclosed in the diary. Where any item has been removed from a diary, the place from which it has been removed has been recorded as part of the description of the item.

Many other similar papers were pasted into the diaries: these have been treated as an integral part of the diary. Please note that it has not been possible to list all the items which are pasted within the diaries, although it is anticipated that more work will be undertaken in this area in the future.
