The Department of Chemistry was part of the Faculty of Pure Science in 1948, when the University was created. In 1981 the Faculty of Pure Science became the Faculty of Science. In 1998 the Department became part of the School of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science.

Papers relating to the governance and administration of the Department of Chemistry, 1949-1982 (UAD13/1/1);
Historical and commemorative material relating to the Department of Chemistry, its staff and students, 1898-2009 (UAD13/2/1-2);
