Content DescriptionSays that Mrs Elisabeth Burck asked Mrs Hastings to arrange for a licence so that Mr Mathew Cowdal (the brother of her husband) could come to England from Holland; states that Cowdal had already 'come out of France into Holland' and has been left an estate in Ireland by a relative; alleges that Mrs Burck attempted to bribe 'Mrs Hastings's woman' (Mrs Anne Pelissier?); says that Mrs Burck admitted that her brother-in-law and 'several other gentlemen were come out of France and were here in town'.
