TitleLetter in Latin from A de Matueof [Matveyev], London, to Robert Harley [later 1st Earl of Oxford]; 5 Jul. 1707
Date5 July 1707
Extent2 ff
LevelItem/file
Content DescriptionAcknowledges receipt of [Harley's] letter in French of 2 July in which he tried to explain the delay in a reply; refers to further reinforcement of his own instructions by the most recently received mandate of the Tsar [Peter I], given at Lüblin on 13 Jun., and continues to press for a meeting to discuss the matters in question; also presses for an answer on the question of the recognition of Stanislaw [Lesczynski] and the guarantee for the Saxon-Swedish peace, as well as the attitude to the same of the 'Celsi et Praepotentes Ordines Vniti Belgij' [the States of United Provinces?]; says he would also like a reply concerning the Tsar's complaints about Augustus II, former king of Poland.

Complains that in his last letter, Harley did not use the proper form of reference to the Tsar, calling him simply 'le Czar' and hopes he will not do so again as he, Matveyev, always refers to the queen [Anne] in the correct way; continues by complaining that some insolent 'Novellisti' have published an English version of the Tsar's letter to the queen without permission and he does not know how they got hold of a copy; hopes this will not happen again.
