Content DescriptionDescribes circumstances leading to his present grievance and appeal for compensation; gives detailed account of developments since in 1799 it was agreed that he should raise a regiment in Germany, a plan halted when the British Government decided it wanted to 'recover' Holland; describes his return to England where he was told he would soon receive orders to go back in order to complete his corps from the Duke of Portland and the Duke of York; no orders were issued and promised negotiations were not entered into; describes the negotiations entered into over the 'Capitulation' and the money that he [John Bentinck] personally paid for the expenses of his regiment due to the fact that his 'Capitulation' was not renewed.
