States that he has proposed motion for Committee on first day of sitting [of House of Commons]; believes it will not pass without debate; informs him that Mr Hope has notice for ammendment; comments that he was informed by Major Beresford that his speech and vote on Jew[ish] Bill gave offence to Protectionist Party; states that he has given his resignation [as head of Protectionists] and is now 'perfectly free and independent' M.P.
Autograph note by J.E. Denison on f 1r' reads 'George Bentinck having resigned the Lead of the Protectionists'.
