Content Description | Refers to his wife [Emily]'s health; comments on current state of Ireland; believes gangs of able-bodied poor are becoming 'regular banditts' [sic]; states that he is expecting 'winter of mischief'; comments on need to lock away valuables; refers to people demoralised by relief works and relief kitchens and are against workhouse test; refers to own experiments in growing turnips and potatoes; compares ruined crop planted at ordinary depth with successful crop planted deeper; comments that disease [potato blight] is nearly universal in England and Ireland; wishes Edward Denison to recommend tutor to him as he is removing his sons from Eton and Harrow; comments that he wishes to move from Ireland.
