Fears political alliance of 'county gentlemen' and protectionists including Lord H.B. [Henry Bentinck] and 'Milward and Co.' in local elections; has written to Mr Falkner; states that he believes Spooner and Newdigate will be defeated in election; comments on electioneering including candidacy of 'old Dick' against Beresford in Essex; believes that Government has more support than expected but not enough to carry on.
