Encloses a letter [not present] from an unnamed writer regarding a medal; says that Lord [1st Viscount] Hardinge is in 'favour of floating? the medal'; believes that 'we may do it' if the opinion of the [10th Earl of] Dalhousie concurs with that of Hardinge; refers briefly to the 'Canada Cle? Reserves'.

Some parts of the text have been lost due to fire damage - possibly in the fire at Clumber in 1879.
