| Content Description | This series of manorial papers forms part of the first deposit of the Newcastle (Clumber) Collection; it ranges in date from 1357-1867 and relates to manors that were held by the Holles Family, Earls of Clare and Dukes of Newcastle upon Tyne, as well as by the Pelham-Clinton Dukes of Newcastle under Lyne.
The series relates solely to manors/bailiwicks in Nottinghamshire, including Bassetlaw, Bevercotes, Bothamsall, Elkesley, Gamston, Kirklington, Maplebeck, Markham Clinton, Newark and Walkeringham; documents relating to manors in other counties, such as Surrey, can be found in later deposits, such as Ne 6.
The manorial papers include court rolls, accounts and rentals and contain information such as jury lists, presentments, details of fines, issues and amercements, verdicts and so on.
