Content DescriptionThe plan of the arrangement of the volumes [9 in total] is as follows; (1) the estates collective, comprising of family settlements, wills and so on, and showing the means of settlement and conveyance; (2) the estates in each separate county, consisting of estates purchased by different members of the family; (3) miscellaneous writings arranged under the headings of court rolls, surveys, maps and plans, rentals, receivers accounts, vouchers, expired leases, unexpired leases, proceedings in suits and correspondence; (4) writings relating to the personal estates of the duke; (5) estates 'not now in the family'.

Introduction [contained in volume 1] traces the history of the family estates from Sir William Holles through to 1794 and the death of the 2nd Duke of Newcastle, giving details of inheritances, purchases and so on.
