Content Description | This series of estate papers forms part of the sixth deposit of the Newcastle (Clumber) Collection; the series consists of approximately 311 items and ranges in date from 1532 to 1987; it relates primarily to the management of the Dukes of Newcastle under Lyne's estates, in particular in Nottinghamshire, Berkshire (in particular Forest Farm) and Surrey, demonstrating the extent of their estates in later years.
The arrangement of this series has been dictated a great deal by the large sections of specific records types such as enclosure papers, sales particulars and agent's reports. The fourth section covers miscellaneous estate papers, and includes a number of papers relating to the Hope estates and the 8th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne.
The form of the material is varied; the estate papers includes enclosure papers, sales particulars, agent's reports, correspondence, valuations, parliamentary acts, terriers, and papers relating to the sale of Clumber House, Nottinghamshire and its contents.
This series is complemented by other series of estate papers within the Newcastle (Clumber) Collection; these are to be found within the first deposit (Ne E) and within the fifth deposit (Ne 5 E).
