| Content Description | Desires to be buried in the vault in St Mary's Church in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and to be laid next to his beloved wife.
Recites details of certain articles [of agreement] made previous to the marriage of his daughter that if she should die and leave issue, then on his decease the sum of £5000. should be paid to Rev. James Oakes and Rev. Henry Hasted; recites that he has actually paid the sum of £5000. to Oakes and Hasted and has been laid out for the prospective annuities, and that he has recently advanced to the [12th] Duke of Norfolk the sum of £25,000. as mortgage for estates in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Middlesex, Norfolk and Suffolk; orders his executor to stand seized of the sum of £12,500. to secure repayment.
Bequeaths the sum of £12,500. when paid to Rev. Oakes and Hasted, or to the trustees of his daughter's settlement.
Gives to his daughter Maria Susan the sum of £10,000.; declares that the dividends of the stock which have been purchased with the £5000. in trust is to be accepted by his daughter and her husband William Gould, in lieu of the arrangement for the annuity noted by the articles of agreement recited above.
Bequeaths the above mentioned sum of £12,500. to his son, Rev. Oakes; also gives to him a further sum of £10,000.; states that his executors are to pay the two sums of £10,000. directed for his son and daughter as specified: £2000. principal sum with £4000. interest one year after his decease; two years after his decease the sum of £2000. with £320. interest; three years after his decease the sum of £2000. with £240. interest; four years after his decease the sum of £2000. with £160. interest; and five years after his decease the sum of £2000. with £80. interest.
Also gives to his son and daughter the further sum of £200. each in lieu of their share of their sister Charlotte's stock, which has been promised to them; also gives them the 'Tontine' share of £100. standing in their respective names.
Desires that his silver plate be equally divided amongst his executor, son and daughter; requests that Rev. Hasted accept the sum of £50. for his troubles as trustee; further specific monetary bequests are made including to several schools including the Old Boys Charity School and the Boys National School; further details of specific family legacies are provided, primarily to his sisters and their daughters.
Requests that all his real estates which he has power to convey and settle shall descend to his son Orbell Ray Oakes; also gives to his son Orbell all ready monies, stocks, funds, securities for mortgages, together with the residue of his personal estate, after payment of all funeral expenses and charges.
