Content Description | Statement made by John Legh in answer to a plea made by John [Holles, 3rd] Duke of Newcastle [upon Tyne] for the recovery of a debt of £2000.; the duke's attorney states that Legh did borrow from the duke £2000. on 15 Oct. [1694] in order to pay him, and claims that none of the £2000. has been repaid; states further that Lgh refuses to pay as he is in a worse position and has damage to the value of £10, hence the bringing of this case.
Legh's attorney states that he has not been informed by his client of any answer and so will not say anything; therefore the Duke remains against Legh, and that the Duke shall recover the debt from Legh, and also the damages occasioned by bringing the suit, at a charge of 40s. |
