Content Description | This series of accounting papers forms part of the sixth deposit of the Newcastle (Clumber) Collection; the series consists of approximately 400 items and ranges in date from 1771-1988; it relates primarily to the estates and personal finances of the later Dukes of Newcastle under Lyne and the various trusts and land companies established to managed the estates from the early 20th century onwards.
A certain amount of earlier material, very similar to that found within the first deposit of Newcastle accounts [Ne A] is also present; this earlier material relates to the estates of the Dukes of Newcastle under Lyne and their forebears in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire; early accounts relating to estates in Somerset are also present.
Because of the varied nature of much of the material the arrangement is quite complex; there are sections for accounts relating to properties in particular counties, then general estate accounts, personal financial papers of the 7th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne, accounts relating to the London and Fort George Land Company Limited, assorted accounts ledgers, accounts of the Hope Trustees and Hope Settled Estates, personal financial papers of the 8th Duke of Newcastle under lyne, accounts of Harrowlands Holdings Limited, miscellaneous smaller company interests, personal financial papers of the 9th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne and finally, a very small section of miscellaneous accounting papers.
The series contains general estate accounts, large accounts ledgers, accounts with tradesmen, bundles of vouchers, company accounts, financial papers relating to death duties, receivers' accounts and joint rentals and accounts for properties in Lincolnshire (note that other rentals can be found within Ne 6 R).
