On the death of the 5th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne [18 October 1864], many of the estates were managed by Trustees, according to the 1856 Settlement of the estates, in an arrangement which lasted until 1879; the estates included in this record were those of recent purchase and not included in the earlier settlement. |
