Rental includes an abstract of the collection, arranged by individual estate, available at p 25-26; rentals are then compared and adjusted.
The account [which can be found on pp 35-52] contains details of occasional receipts, relating to stone, mines, and game, for example.
The account also includes a record of payments from the estates from 25 March 1871 to 25 March 1872, for land and income taxes, tithes, and other sundries; these are arranged by category from p 40.
The overall annual balance sheet can be found on pp 51-52; this provides an abstract of the receipts and payments for 1871/1872 for the unsettled estates and indicates that the balance was £31,320.1.9.
The spellings of place names in this record have been modernised from the original for the purpose of consistency.
On the death of the 5th Duke of Newcastle under Lyne [18 October 1864], many of the estates were managed by Trustees, according to the 1856 Settlement of the estates, in an arrangement which lasted until 1879; the estates included in this record were those of recent purchase and not included in the earlier settlement. |
