Content DescriptionRefers to an agent for the 'Safety ' Office which will be explained by Mr Logan of Glasgow; agrees to talk to Sidney Herbert about the Army [rum] ration; refers to the 'lunacy' of the Crimean War; briefly states that the Newspaper Stamp Bill has no 'real' opposition except Lord Campbell; notes that 'there is hardly any man I more despise in public life' than the Lord Chief Justice; advises that he has seen 'old Morrison's property at Bagshot; believes Mr Morrison of Edinburgh is heir-at-law, so will be residuary legatee.

Assesses the new government which he belives will not last long - 'we shall have a "Derby" government before long'; mentions a rumour that [Lord] Palmerston will go to the Lords so that 'Johnny' [Lord John Russell] can lead; notes that Lord Aberdeen opposed the Peelites' resignation, but advised them to 'consort with us'; fears that [his daughter] Helen [Priestman Bright] has whooping cough.
