Admin HistoryThese papers form part of the larger Manvers Collection, and were generated in the course of the management of the family's estate business. For details about the Pierrepont family and their estates, see the collection-level description for Manvers. In subject matter and date, they complement other groups of papers in the Manvers Collection. There are many areas of overlap between these groups, which are catalogued separately because of the date and manner of their transfer to the University.
Custodial HistoryThese papers form a sub-fonds of the Manvers Collection (GB 0159 Ma), and comprise material which came to the University library at various times between 1978 and 2004.
DescriptionThe papers are very mixed and do not form a coherent body of material.

The papers relating to the Thoresby estate (Ma 7 E) include a series of game books recording animals and birds shot there between 1855 and 1982.

Family papers (Ma 7 F) include a 17th-century anthology of documents relating to the Pierrepont family, collected by the antiquarian St Loe Kniveton, pamphlets relating to the trial of Elizabeth Chudleigh, Duchess of Kingston, in 1788, bound illuminated addresses to the 3rd Earl Manvers, the Thoresby Hall Visitors' Book, and two volumes of newspaper cuttings.

Inventories (Ma 7 I) include catalogues to the Thoresby library dating back to 1771, and lists of documents stored in the Muniment Room in the early 20th century, before they were dispersed to the British Library and The University of Nottingham.

The series of plans and surveys (Ma 7 P) includes the volume 'Records of Bath', detailing Viscount Newark's estate there in 1801, and a survey (with maps) of Earl Manvers' Holme Pierrepont estate in around 1829. There is also a fine series of coloured county maps by the cartographers Emanuel Bowen and Thomas Kitchin dating from around the 1760s.

There are also various photograph albums and some loose photographs (Ma 7 Ph).
