Admin History | Edith Becket (1877-1952) was one of the earliest students at University College, Nottingham, graduating in 1898. In 1900 she joined the staff of the Department of Education, where she remained until her retirement in 1947.
Dr Becket's principal academic interest was the history of education and in 1928 she published a history, 'The University College Nottingham'. In 1936 she obtained her Ph D for her thesis on 'The History of Education and of Educational Institutions in Nottinghamshire excluding the City of Nottingham from 1800-1930'.
The history of local education remained her abiding interest, and she continued to undertake research in this area until her death in 1952. |
