The school was originally known as the Pupil Teacher Centre, and was attended by D.H. Lawrence (c.1903-1905) and a group of his friends, including Louie Burrows, Jessie Chambers, Richard Pogmore and George Henry Neville.

Includes illustrations of D.H. Lawrence, views of the school, and an architects plan of the front elevation.
