If I had not a few grains of reason, I should be a maudlin idiot'; wants her help in his exhaustion; describes the 'tipsy' state of 'Pa Jones' [John William Jones] and claims to be able to ascertain the state of inebriation of any man he knows; encourages her to keep her spirits high and not to cry; mentions his plans for his Brighton holiday, explaining the support he will have to offer Ada [Lawrence] although he wants 'comforting' himself; reveals his closeness to Ada.

Wants Louie to enjoy Christmas and to 'forget' him as he thinks that he 'frets' her but promises to be a 'good husband' as he believes that he is 'very faithful' to his own folk; refers to his dreams of his mother [Lydia Lawrence] revealing his bond with her; signed 'D.H.L.'
