Content Description | One DVD containing audio interviews as follows:
Willard 'Spud' Johnson (26 minutes). Concerning his introduction to D.H. Lawrence and Frieda in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Recalls incidents between Lawrence and Frieda where Lawrence had "sudden outbursts" of anger at Frieda.
Dorothy Brett (46 minutes). Topics discussed by Brett include her first meeting with Lawrence and Frieda in Hampstead in 1914, going to Taos with Lawrence in the 1920s, her relationship with Frieda, Lawrence's painting, their horses, Susan the cow and Timsy the cat, Lawrence's illness and the controversy surrounding his ashes following his death.
William 'Bill' Hawk (10 minutes). Recalls Lawrence's activities at their ranch, Lawrence and Frieda's fights, the other residents at the ranch.
Recording of Frieda Lawrence reading excerpts from the poems 'Bavarian Gentians' and 'Autumn at Taos' (3 minutes). See related recording at La Av 1/1.
Note that the disc was created in 2015 from earlier recordings by Mr Peter Davis. The date of the original interviews is not known, but evidence within the interviews would suggest a date after the death of Frieda Lawrence in 1956, but prior to the death of Willard Johnson in 1968.
Also see other recorded interviews by Peter Davis at La Av 1/8. |
