Content DescriptionSocial news of their activities in South Africa iincluding dining with Princess Alice, and a visit to a country show with the princess, where she saw cattle, show jumping and a mule team pulling a waggon. Informs him that Noel passed in 4th place.

They went for tea today with the Archbishop [of Cape Town, William Carter] and Mrs Carter [his wife Hester Marion Carter, née Rose]. Reports that the Archbishop has lived in South Africa for 39 years and is retiring from his position.

Confirms that they sail on the 'Arundel Castle' to Durban, and then on to Pietermaritzburg. Regrets that she is unable to travel to the Transvaal and many inland places in South Africa due to the height above sea level.

Discusses the recent illness of Lord Byng [Julian Byng, 1st Viscount Byng of Vimy], and fears that he will never be able to work again.
