Admin HistoryEric Buchanan was born in 1848 and attended Wellington College, where he was a Queen's Medallist. He married in 1898 Constance Augusta (d 1914), daughter of Captain Charles Edmund Tennant, RN, of Needwood House, Burton-on-Trent, who had died in a tragic shooting accident.

Sir Eric had two children: Sir Charles James Buchanan, 4th baronet (1899-1984) and Mary Constance Victoria (Mamie) who married Thomas Garret Mayhew, son of Thomas Mayhew of The Lodge, Hythe, Kent.

Eric Buchanan died in London in 1928.

DescriptionThis section includes:
Correspondence relating to receipt of the Queen's Medal at Wellington College (Bu C 4). A large number of items originating from the Tennant family, ancestors of Constance Augusta Tennant, wife of Sir Eric, including a Valentine's poem from 1830 and letters of condolence on the death of Charles Edmund Tennant (Bu C 1). Further series contain correspondence congratulating Eric and Constance on their marriage, alongside a list of wedding presents and newspaper cutting (Bu C 2) and a large quantity of correspondence is from Constance Tennant to Eric Buchanan from Brighton when he was working in London in the late 1890s. (Bu C 3)
