Content DescriptionStates that he had received his letter in San Francisco and that he had written to Fanny; informs him he had spent some time with the Beales in Washington, but the General was away in California; Mrs Beale and Emily asked to be remembered to Lady Buchanan; Emily was in as good form as she was in Vienna; states that he had been at sea for eighteen days and that he hoped to reach Yokahama on the 25th; comments on the result of the elections [British], which he had heard whilst in New York; Lord Dunmore had lost his appointment; Stafford, Northcote and Cavendish-Bentinck would be depressed by the loss their fathers would sustain and Campbell's brother had lost his Private Secretaryship to the Duke of Richmond.
