Content DescriptionInforms him that a treaty has been ratified preventing Russia gaining a port in Norway which does not freeze in winter; Sweden has changed policy and is likely to support the British cause; states that he has little hope of a solution and feels Plessen is supporting the Russian cause, when as a Danish Minister, he should adopt his Government's line; expresses surprise at Valdes' suicide but had thought him a bore; does not know anything of his wife; remarks on the connection of the Beresford family to the de la Poer's; the port was frozen and it would be expensive to cut a passage through; comments that the American speculation was a failure and unlikely to be repeated.
