Content DescriptionReports the Italian Government were waiting to hear of the views of the British Government, and are anxious that good relations between the interested powers are maintained; they believed that the powers should wait until they hear how the news has been received by the Porte; and they would be ready to discuss the matter with the other powers; they make no reference to the principles involved or the form in which the declaration was made; Marquess Bella believes that both the King and the Italian government might take a warmer view if this issue were brought into connection with the Franco/Prussian conflict, and lead to intervention in favour of France.
