Content DescriptionReports that he has heard it said that Prince Gorchakov has acted as he has, out of a wish to satisfy the passionate desire of the Emperor to escape from a dishonourable obligation; the Emperor had declared that he could not die in peace until this stain was wiped out; the time was now right; has heard from one source that the Russian ministers became carried away by their emotions, and from another that they believed it useless to oppose the Emperor.
