Content DescriptionStates that he had little good news to report; states that some of the ministerial journals disapproved of evacuating Tetuan and that the Spanish government had lost an opportunity for peace; reports the opposition press continued to inflame the situation which may cause the fall of the government; states he does not wish to engage in further speculation but that the Moors were wrong not to offer fair peace terms to Spain; reasonable terms would win them more support abroad; informs him further enquires among SeƱor Balbao's regiment have satisfied the authorities that he was killed and that Balbao's family wished to pass on their thanks to him [Drummond-Hay] for his interest; states that 'everything English' was at present a taboo subject; asks if he would remain in Tangier once O'Donnell had begun his march.
