Content DescriptionAcknowledges the receipt of his letter sending good wishes on his Knighthood and doubts that Drummond-Hay would have to wait long for his promotion in the Order [of the Bath]; informs him he had been mystified by his messages about the negotiations with O'Donnell and states he wished to clarify the exact date and length of these discussions; informs him O'Donnell had agreed to evacuate Tetuan on receipt of the first payment; refers to statements made in his previous letter qualifying his position (see Bu 44/3).

Informs him it was unlikely that the Queen would remove O'Donnell and that his hold on power had been improved by the 'outbreak of Ortega'; states that there was the possibility of traitors amongst the Ultra Moderatos so the Queen will need to keep her current Prime Minister; Mulay Abbas must be 'green' to attach importance to the promises of O'Donnell; expresses concern about how the Sultan will pay the indemnity; informs him Henry O'Donnell has denied that Drummond-Hay's brother's house at Tetuan had been occupied by the Spanish army; details are given of protection offered by the military authorities.

States that he would relate information to Collantes about the status of the guard; informs him he did not know of the document Lord Carnarvon refers to and that he was surprised Lord Wodehouse did not deny giving advice to Morocco; states that Mr Collantes was a sincere advocate of peace.
