Content DescriptionRefers to a letter received from Mr Barrie reporting that a British vessel, the 'Heron' has been captured near Valencia on suspicion of smuggling despite being nearly 30 miles from land; reveals a note has been sent to Calderón Collantes demanding the release of the vessel and compensation for the owners; reports that if the captors of the 'Amalia' had been suitably punished, the 'present outrage would probably not have been committed'; reveals that although the British Government does not wish to protect smuggling, the Spanish Government must adopt 'measures for the prevention of such illegal captures in future'.
