Content Description
Concerns a meeting with Calderón Collantes to discuss the repayment of the debt contracted by Spain for arms and ammunition supplied by Great Britain during the Civil War of 1835; reports Calderón Collantes is unhappy that the British government is demanding repayment of the dept at a time when there is 'an unusual strain on the military and financial resources of the country'; reports that Great Britain cannot allow Spain to make the excuse that her recent military expeditions have caused a drain on finances, as Great Britain did not approve of these expeditions; explains the payments demanded by Great Britain will not 'embarrass the finances of Spain'; reveals Calderón Collantes has agreed to make arrangements for payment of the debt, possibly over a number of years.
