Content Description
Refers to an interview between Mr Powles and the Minister of Finance, Mr Salaverina ; reveals Mr Salaverina spoke of the error which had been committed in 1851 and 'expressed his own personal wish that the wrong then done to the creditors of Spain' should be remedied; discusses the advice given by Mr Salaverina to Mr Powles; explains that public opinion on the matter could be improved through the press; reveals Mr Salaverina had hoped that the London stock exchange could be opened to Spain 'as a token of approval of the regularity with which she pays the interest on her acknowledged debts' but that he was informed this could not be done; comments on the reluctance of ministers to bring the question forward in the Cortes.
