Content DescriptionDiscusses the proceedings of the Congress; Mr Martinez de la Rosa was re-elected President; they discussed General Prim's condemnation of the war with Mexico, and the issues of whether Mexico had fulfilled her treaty obligations, and of Mexico's debts to Spain; they discussed Mexico's insolent treatment of a Spanish minister in 1856; relations between the two countries increasingly worsened and then a revolution in Mexico resulted in a government hostile to Spain; then after the events [assassinations] at San Vicente the Spanish mission from Mexico was removed; General Almonte and Mr de la Frage made abortive missions to Mexico; Mr Collantes argued that the naval forces that had been sent were on a peaceful mission to protect Spanish subjects; General Prim's amendment was voted for by himself alone.
