Content DescriptionReports that Collantes reiterates the friendly assurances offered by Ist£riz to the British Government, but disagreed with the Earl of Malmesbury's view that the Slave Trade could be suppressed by the more vigourous action of the Cuban authorities; Mr Collantes insisted that no efforts would be spared to stop the traffic, and that orders would be immediately sent to General Concha, instructing him to dismiss every official found conniving with the Trade or being negligent in its suppression; General Concha would also be asked to submit a report on the state of the Cuban Slave Trade; he suggested to Collantes that more plantations should be opened for police inspection, and mentioned the suicide of a number of Chinese labourers in Cuba working for tyrannical planters.

Mr Collantes assured him that if the Captain-General of Cuba had any suggestions these would be considered seriously.
