Content DescriptionReports that General O'Donnell has offered to General Lavala the job of Inspector of Cavalry; General Lavala's friends in the Progressivista Party recommended his acceptance on condition conditions; this would be an opportunity to influence the Government in favourable circumstances; the support for General O'Donnell of the more moderate members is secure; discusses the likely impact on the Cortes, and the views of ministers on this; this morning's gazette has published the names of forty new senators, mainly from General O'Donnell's immediate party or from the Progressivistas; states that General O'Donnell intends to weed the army of reactionary elements, that he had made changes to the King's staff and discusses his likely policies and supporters; comments on the possibility of the General establishing his administration on the principles of conciliation and moderation that he has proclaimed.
