Content DescriptionReports that Marshall O'Donnell has stated that he intends that Spain should remain neutral in the Franco/Austrian War, and also that he hopes that the other great neutral powers will work together to localise the war and bring it to a speedy conclusion; if the area of War expands Spain would have to take steps to defend her interests if necessary; he [Buchanan] assured him that should the British Government abandon its current neutral policy it would not seek allies by coercion; he stated to Marshall O'Donnell that there is strong feeling in Britain in favour of an alliance with France; even if England were forced into a war with France, English and Spanish interests would be identical.
