Content Description | Reports that he arrived in Madrid the previous day, having spent the day before that in Alicante, where he found the Queen on her way to Valencia, and witnessed the populace's enthusiasm and affection for her; Mr Ist£riz was in attendance on the Queen, and he offered his respects to him; he accepted the Marquess de Turgot's offer to accompany him; the Queen, during an inspection of the fleet on the previous day, had paid the Marquess de Turgot a visit on board the French frigate sent to accompany her to Valencia; this was in consequence of the Marquess requesting the President of the Council to take the Queen's orders on the subject; Mr Ist£riz explained how the Queen had been prevented from paying a similar compliment to the Curlew.
He observed to Mr Ist£riz that he hoped that the Queen would not judge the British Government's opinion of her by the size of the vessel appointed to wait upon her, which had be selected as the only one near enough to reach Alicante in time; the Queen will celebrate Corpus Christi in Valencia; he will therefore have to wait a few days before being received by her. |
