Content DescriptionInforms him Sir Randal Roberts' story was true and that he had accompanied General Manteuffel on his campaigns and been awarded the Iron Cross by the Crown Prince of Germany; reports that Bismarck was ill and that the German Government was paralysed as a result; the Liberals tried to act independently regarding the Army Bill but would probably vote as Bismarck desired; comments on the passing of the Ecclesiastical Laws in Vienna; informs him that opinion in Germany was that Andrassy would re-open the 'Oriental question' and that he and Bismarck were agreed on the subject; Bismark, Bülow and Radowitz were claiming 'all was quiet in the East'; reports Bismarck had informed him he would do all he could to keep Andrassy in power should his enemies gain the ear of the Emperor, presuming him to mean Hohenlohe.
