Content DescriptionThanks him for his letter which had taken 6 weeks to arrive; describes communications in India and the vast distances which had to be covered; states that he does not feel Russian interests in India should vary with British interests; sends in confidence papers regarding the treaty reached with Maharajah of Cashmere and the visits of Mr Forsyth who had reported on commerce in the region; informs him that he was recommending to the Foreign Secretary that the question of the Afghan borders should be addressed; will be happy to keep him informed about policy decisions regarding Central Asia; informs him that the Yarkand envoy was the same man who had visited St Petersburg and had shown Forsyth photographs of Prince Gorchakov and others.
