Content DescriptionThanks him for his letter and informs him that his despatches have now been sent to England; states that in his opinion the affair with Russia was more serious than was thought and that Bismarck was attempting to persuade Turkey to accept the 'Russian circular' and that he would endeavour to draw Italy in his wake; Gorchakov seemed to have taken Bismarck at his word and would not be outwitted by him; expresses hope that the present 'emergency' as Lord Russell calls it would awaken the British nation, even if war did not break out; praises Lord Granville's handling of the situation; informs him that Paris had provisions for 2 months and that Bismarck was starting to favour the idea of bombardment against the wishes of the King and informs him that Bismarck had not been on speaking terms with Count Moltke.
