Content DescriptionInforms him that he cannot send information on Turkish affairs that is not in the possession of the Foreign Office for him to dispute the lies Gorchakov told him; comments on the 'mischief making Beust's comments found in the Vienna despatch No 220 to Bloomfield, which stated that Beust had brought about peace in Montenegro; states that he does not trust Gorchakov with regard to Central Asia and implies that he might attempt to lay blame on Kaufmann; discusses Russian activity on the Afghan border; Brunnow had tried to blame him [Buchanan] for not informing the Russian Government of the proposed instruction to Erskine with regard to Greece; did not doubt that Michell's report would be interesting.
