Found his news from Copenhagen of interest; complains of being cooped up in his ship for 3 months with opium dealers; the shoreline is very dull and consists of deep mud; it is unsafe to land unless armed and in a group; the shops are empty and the streets are very narrow and unpleasant; Baron Grogs is behaving well and does as Lord Elgin bids him; the French naval brigade are causing some problems; asks him to write with more details of life in Copenhagen; further descriptions of China are given; advises him to read the Times for more information on Elgin's actions.
