Letter from H. Canning de Burgh [later 2nd Marquess of Clanricarde], St Leonards on Sea, Sussex, to A. Buchanan; 28 Dec 1851.
28 December 1851
Discusses changes in British political structure; thought Lord Wodehouse would be the new Under Secretary; was annoyed that Lord Palmerston [Foreign Secretary] should persist [on a course of action of which he disapproved]; the seals were offered to Clarendon [who was at the Board of Trade] but he turned them down; suspects he enjoyed his present post but thought he has made a blunder for such an ambitious man.
