Content DescriptionSends despatches with Hope and Michell; states that Russia was trying to prevent emigration from Russia denies any military build up in Bessarabia; comments on the nomination by Russia of the Duke of Oldenburg as head of state for the new Duchy [Schleswig-Holstein] and upon the claims of Augustenburg; states that he considered the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein to have the 'greatest hereditary' right; asks if he considered the Russian consulate at Berlin to be 'underhand' in their dealings with Bismarck, but thinks Gorchakov had acted fairly; comments on the amount of post he had for Berlin.
