Content Description
Reports that he has gleaned information regarding the overtures of the French from Gorchakov; the only English Minister ever to have kept him up to date was Lord Clarendon; Lord Russell did not have the same understanding of the need for prompt and accurate intelligence; the Russian Government had used the absence of the Emperor to delay their answer; the Emperor's letter was more artful than his speech had been; notes the mildness of the weather.
