Content DescriptionReturns with thanks the draft of his despatch; has told Gorchakov that Russia cannot expect England to remain neutral as she may join with France in support of Poland; hopes England does remain neutral; support for Poland would further the aggrandisement of France and the Pope; has not heard anything of the Austrian proposal and is reduced to eavesdropping to discover anything at all; the insurrection seems to be spreading in Poland, or at the very least, to be sustained.
